Omicron Sigma Claus Project
2007 Phi Beta Sigma Lone Star State Graduate Chapter Social Action Program of the Year

Seeking to stay true to the motto: Culture for Service and Service for Humanity and seeing local children in need, the “Progressive” Omicron Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. launched our inaugural Omicron Sigma-Claus Toy Drive. This toy drive is to benefit needy children in Denton County. Omicron Sigma collected toys and books in November and December and donated them to the Jireh House in Lewisville, TX to help children better enjoy the Christmas season. Omicron Sigma was able to collect several large bags of toys and books for children ranging in age from newborn to 12 yrs of age.

The Jireh House Homeless Shelter and Adoption Center” is a non-profit agency, which runs solely on donations. The Jireh House caters to displaced and expectant mothers and their children. Though declining, Texas still ranks among the highest in the nation in teen birth rate for ages 15-17. According to Texas Department of State Health Services every 10 minutes a Texas teen gives birth. Every 48 minutes a teen has an abortion. Since April, the maternity home has already provided shelter for 15 expectant mothers ranging in age from 14 to 39, who had no place else to turn. Without this facility many would be forced into shelters. Jireh House is the only maternity home in south Denton County. Omicron Sigma is doing its part to help the residents of the Jireh House.
